Comparative Medicine Institute
Fall 2019
Dr. Michael Daniele had developed a novel microneedle technology that worked in conjunction with a sensor to painlessly extract the fluid in between cells; interstitial fluid(ISF). The MMB team aimed to assess the competitive landscape, researching ISF diagnostic capabilities, and providing a recommendation as to where Dr. Daniele’s technology would best fit into the market.
Fall 2020
Dr. Gilbertie developed a novel treatment called BIO-PLY for equine infections and degenerative joint disease. The MMB team provided an analysis of the potential market opportunities and regulatory pathway in which the proposed BIO-PLY technology could follow. Currently available competitors to this novel platelet rich plasma lysate (PRP) product were identified, as well as potential funding opportunities to help develop a startup company with the technology in the future.
Office of Research Commercialization
Spring 2020
Dr. Nathan Crook produced a revolutionary method for utilizing directed evolution. His unique approach improves upon existing techniques by allowing for better system control, faster production of variants, and the ability to manipulate larger pieces of DNA. The MMB team was deployed to evaluate the market for Dr. Crook’s technology, and determine options for infusing his methodology into the biotechnology industry.
Research Experience
Microbiology lab assistant
In the spring semester of 2018, I worked in the Ottesen lab at The Univeristy of Georgia as a lab assistant. During this time, I performed analysis on the microbial communities in the phyllosphere (the total above-ground portion of plants which microorganisms inhabit). This was done using DNA extraction, PCR, agarose gel visualization and analysis using the software mothur.
